AUSTIN (AP) Oil and gas companies say they are filing lawsuits to block the Environmental Protection Agency’s new regulations on the use of synthetic oils.
The oil and gas industry group, American Petroleum Institute, said Thursday in a letter to the U.S. Supreme Court that the EPA’s rule would have “unconstitutional implications.”
The EPA said Thursday it was filing a separate petition seeking to halt the rule, saying it’s in the public interest to protect the health and welfare of people in our country and the environment.
The companies’ legal challenge comes as oil prices are expected to rise again.
They argue the rule would create uncertainty for the industry and could cause billions in lost revenue.
